Lawrence Stonitsch, co-founder and
former president of Rovanco Piping
Systems, passed away March 20 at age
80 at his home in Joliet, Ill. A lifelong
resident of Joliet, Larry graduated from
Joliet Township High School and entered
the U.S. Marine Corps, where he wrestled and boxed. In 1958, he won the
Illinois Golden Gloves on the same card
as Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). Larry
had a zest for life that was infectious,
and his work ethic was admirable. He
owned a general contracting business
for several years and then founded
Rovanco Piping Systems with his brother
in 1969. Until his retirement in early
2017, Larry served as president of the
company, which has grown into a market
leader and has sold projects worldwide.
Larry held several patents in preinsulated pipe design. He was inducted into
the Illinois Entrepreneur Hall of Fame
and was named an IDEA Life Member. An
accomplished wrestling coach, Larry was
among the founders of the Illinois Kids
Wrestling Federation (IKWF), and he also
coached at the Joliet Boys Club, where
his record was 220- 5-1 and where he
also served as president. He was inducted into the IKWF and Illinois Wrestling
Coaches Hall of Fame. Larry is survived
by his wife, Cyndi; four children and
their families; three siblings; and many
other extended family members. IDEA
