Carolyn Luomala, CPA, was recently
named vice president of finance for
Thermal Energy Corp. (TECO) in Houston.
Luomala serves as business partner and
finance lead, overseeing treasury management, financial planning and budgeting,
accounting and audit, and procurement.
She also attends and reports at board of
directors and finance committee meetings.
Most recently Luomala was vice president of corporate accounting and controlling at TechnipFMC, which provides equipment and services for the energy industry.
She directed all corporate accounting
activities in Houston and Paris, including
global IT finance and multiple accounting
projects. Previously she worked on location in Scotland where she aligned global
business services strategies and structures
between recently merged U.K.-based legacy FMC Technologies and France- and
India-based legacy Technip. Luomala first
joined FMC in 2010.
From 2001 to 2010, Luomala was
with General Electric, first at GE Power
Systems, then GE Consumer Finance and
GE Aero Energy. She graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree in accounting
from Texas Tech and an MBA from State
University of New York. She is a certified
public accountant and holds Six Sigma
Green Belt certification.
Clarissa Brewster was recently pro-
moted to vice president of human resources
for TECO. She works with department heads
Carolyn Luomala Clarissa Brewster
to determine their staffing needs, post positions, interview candidates, make the offers
and bring new team members on board.
Brewster is responsible for compensation
and full administration of all employee benefits, plus handles payroll processing, quarterly and year-end payroll tax reporting, and
annual general liability and workers’ compensation audits. She also develops, revises
and implements human resources-related
company policies and ensures compliance
and communication of policies, procedures,
regulations and laws. Brewster has held
numerous positions within TECO since coming on board as receptionist in 1991. She
worked her way up through accounting to
become financial operations accountant,
a position she held for three years before
most recently becoming human resources
