LONDON REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT
U.K.-based Vital Energi reported Aug.
7 in a company blog article by Katie Ad-
dison that the company has designed
and installed a temporary energy center
for one of the largest brownfield re-
generation projects in Europe, Barking
Riverside London. The 443-acre former
power station site will be redeveloped
into a mixed-use community with 10,800
homes; 65,000 sq m (nearly 700,000 sq ft)
of commercial space; seven schools; and
a new train station. Constructed off-site,
the temporary energy center will gener-
ate up to 4 MW of heating. It is one of
the earliest milestones in the full regen-
eration project, for which Vital Energi
will also be providing the main energy
center that is expected to begin service
The temporary energy center comprises four 1 MW condensing boilers,
sensorless variable-speed pumps, side
stream filter, degasser units and water
softener. The facility will serve the first
1,263 homes in the development until
the main energy center comes on line.
Vital Energi also designed the district
heating network that will supply cus-
tomers from the energy center and grow
along with the development. The net-
work is a weather-compensated district
heating system that will have the ability
to control the flow temperatures of the
water depending on the seasons. The
project is expected to be completed by
2032. The full blog article can be read at
