A New Addition
Scheduled to open
in early 2012, the
630,000-sq-ft
University Medical
Center of Princeton at
Plainsboro will have
237 single patient
rooms. The state-of-
the-art facility will
feature 21st century
emerging technologies
and “evidence based
design” whose design
components have
a track record of
improving the quality
of patient care and
enhancing productivity.
Benefits of CHP+NRGSM
• Reliability. CHP+NRGSM will
provide enhanced reliability and
100% redundancy for the medical
center’s power needs.
• Optimal energy efficiency.
CHP+NRGSM will take an already
energy-efficient power system and
enhance it with ‘smart’ controls and
meters to monitor and adjust energy
use for greatest efficiency.
• Lower total costs. CHP+NRGSM will
enable economic dispatch of on-site
energy, reducing electricity costs and
maximizing sales to the electric grid.
• Good environmental stewardship.
Electricity and thermal energy from
CHP+NRGSM will be produced using
less fuel, reducing the carbon footprint.
• Employment. Building and operating
the CHP+NRGSM system will create
more than 100 construction jobs
and a dozen long-term employment
opportunities.
• Best use of capital. CHP+NRGSM will
allow the medical center to focus on its
core business – delivering quality health
care – with less capital expenditure.
When you’re building a state-of-the-art medical center, you want
to be sure reliable electricity, heating and cooling are available
to run your high-tech equipment and keep patients comfortable
during their stay.
Princeton HealthCare System selected NRG Thermal LLC
to provide the continuous energy supply it needs to ensure
uninterrupted high-quality medical care at its new University
Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, on Route One in
Plainsboro, New Jersey, overlooking the Millstone River. NRG
Thermal will design, build, own, operate and maintain a combined
heat and power plant – CHP+NRGSM – on the medical center’s
campus to supply electricity, steam and chilled water.
