Sign Agreement
Fortum’s Russian subsidiary OAO
Fortum and the Chelyabinsk Region
Administration have agreed to col-
laborate to improve energy efficiency
in the region through 2012. According
to a memorandum of intentions signed
during Russian Energy Minister Sergey
Shmatko’s visit to Finland Jan. 28, the
parties intend to partner to implement a
number of measures aimed at reducing
environmental impacts and promoting
efficient use of resources. The largest
project they will undertake is the auto-
mation and upgrade of the Chelyabinsk
district heating system, which will reduce
energy losses in the area by more than
30 percent and significantly decrease fuel
consumption and emissions.
