Software Expedites Green
Building Certification
Johnson Controls has launched software to simplify building certification. The
new program, Leedspeed™, is a Web-based
application that navigates the user through
the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®)
Green Building Rating Systems.
Leedspeed™ is divided into two sections: assessment/ROI planner, which scores
a project against the most current LEED
standards, and project manage-ment/certification, which provides comprehensive project development and management functions including creation of documentation needed to submit a LEED certification application. Pricing for the software
is structured so building owners can buy
the full package or a specific portion, for
single or multiple buildings. For more
information, see www.leedspeed.com.
Infrared Camera Facilitates
Tube Monitoring
Mikron Infrared offers a portable infrared
camera that does double duty for plant
operators: standard predictive maintenance
plus monitoring boiler tube condition through
flames. The MikroScan 7400 camera has
patented infrared filtering capabilities
allowing dual spectral band operation: 8-
to 14- m long-wave mode for varied thermal inspections or mid-wave 3.9- m band
for imaging the slag buildup on boiler tubes.
Battery-operated and self-contained in
a splash-proof case, the camera is designed
for comfortable one-handed point-and-shoot
operation. It stores images and data to
PCMCIA cards, is equipped with on-board
digital voice recording and can simultaneously record high-definition 14-bit thermal

images with digital visual images. Images
can be viewed in real time via the video
output or through an optional built-in IEEE
1394 (Firewire®) interface. The MikroScan
7400 comes standard with extensive on-board image processing software. It also
can be remotely controlled from a PC using
optional software developed by Mikron,
which provides additional analysis and report-ingcapabilities.Vi sit www.mikroninfrared.

UNH to Become More
Energy-Efficient
The University of New Hampshire has
constructed a cogeneration plant on its
Durham campus that is expected to meet
about 75 percent of campus electrical and
thermal load, with the possibility of handling 100 percent in the future. The $32
million plant, for which ground was broken in May 2004, was scheduled to com-
