Qatar Cool Signs Financing
Agreement
Qatar Cool has signed a $69 million
agreement with a consortium of local and
regional banks for part financing of a district
cooling system to serve the West Bay com-
mercial and residential precinct in Doha,
Qatar. The lenders included Abu Dhabi
Commercial Bank, National Bank of Abu
Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Investment C., Ahli
United Bank, First Gulf Bank and Ahli Bank.
Commercialbank was the sole lead arranger
for the financing facility.
The 10-year loan facility will partially
finance Qatar Cool’s $92 million project,
which will supply chilled-water cooling to
the rapidly developing West Bay area. The
district cooling system will include two
chilled-water plants, a distribution network
and energy transfer stations. The first cooling plant is due to be completed in April
2006, about the same time as many of the
West Bay building projects; construction on
the second plant will begin in January 2006.
Qatar Cool has secured contracts for
the supply of more than 40,000 tons of
cooling in 29 buildings, including such new
developments as the Commercialbank Tower,
the Alfardan Towers and the Al Dana Tower.
The West Bay system will also serve the Al
Rabban residential tower, M Tower and five
new city center hotels. The first stage of the
West Bay district cooling project will have a
60,000 tons of cooling capacity – enough
to cool 50 to 60 typical office towers in
the region.
