An Adsco Gimbal and an Adsco Hinge Expansion Joint completely resolve and place in
balance complex stresses in this line in a chemical plant. The gimbal joint can absorb
up to 6' of angular rotation from two different directions: the left and right motion of
the horizontal part of the ell and similar motion from other unseen upper horizontal
piping at 90' to the plane of the lower piping. The hinge jaint absorbs angular rotation
of the ell caused by the expansion and contraction of the vertical piping •.. So many
motions are involved at this point that the octagonal ring of the gimbal joint could
describe a circle, yet Adsco and customer engineers have identified all motions and the
joints absorb them efficiently.
